3301 North Mulford Road
Rockford, IL 61114
(815)921-4238

Description of Services

Upward Bound Tech, a part of Rock Valley College’s Upward Bound program, serves youth from Harlem, Jefferson, and East High Schools in a 32-week academic year component and a six-week summer component. During the academic year participants receive after school tutoring, supplemental instruction, college/technical school entrance exam preparation, career exploration workshops, cultural activities, college tours and college application and financial aid assistance. The school year the program meets at each site (school) twice weekly and sessions with all students from all sites are held Saturday mornings. Other activities also take place during the month.

During the summer participants attend daily enrichment classes in math, English, science, social studies and work readiness. In addition, students have opportunities to participate in “Career Camps,” Work Study/Job Shadowing Internships, and a high adventure leadership retreat; some students may participate in a week-long college tour.

The program places a heavy emphasis on youth attending post secondary training when they graduate from high school.

The program is closed to new enrollments.
