Description of Services
Rock Valley College’s Adult Education Center’s WIA GED to Careers program helps youth obtain their GED certification, enter advanced training and/or gain employment or improve their current earnings with a better job, and develop an appreciation for lifelong learning. In order to accomplish these goals, students are placed in a class that meets four days per week, three hours per day, twelve hours per week on a continuous basis for up to two years until they accomplish their goals. The class provides instruction in GED test areas, career exploration, and work readiness skills. Volunteer tutors may provide individualized tutoring and support for program participants; students may also use the RVC Success Center’s tutoring services. Staff assist participants secure job shadowing experiences, internships, and jobs and/or apply for further education/training. The program provides on-going guidance and counseling/case management and job development.
The program is housed at the RVC Stenstrom Center and serves youth from both Winnebago and Boone counties.
