Description of Services

Booker Washington Association’s Helping Our Teens Transition to College/Careers (HOTTC) program targets African-American* drop-out youth in a comprehensive program that provides assessment, GED and basic skills instruction/upgrading, life skills instruction, preparation for job search, basic computer skills instruction, work experience, leadership development, supportive services, adult mentoring, follow-up, and group and individualized counseling and career guidance.

The program’s emphasis is on these activities:
• GED instruction to help participants earn a GED;
• Life skills instruction and work readiness skills instruction—i.e., preparation for the world of work;
• Career exploration to help participants enter postsecondary education and training, and
• Job development to help those not headed to post secondary training gain entry level jobs.

*Note: While program targets African-American youth, it is not limited to African American youth.
